Anyone who knows me knows that I love a sampler. Specifically, I love getting to try a lot of different things, especially when it comes to food. If you weren't aware, the classy version of the sampler is a flight. And up until now, I've only had flights of wine and cheese (and actually tacos, if you can believe that). Sono Wood Fired, a pizzeria in Lincoln Park, takes the idea of flights across their menu. Because I'm such a lucky duck, I was invited to dinner where Chef John treated me and a group of other Chicago-area food-focused social media peeps to a generous dinner of all kinds of flights!
We had more varieties of bruschetta than I knew existed. Here are a few: Olivetta (sun-dried tomato and kalamata olive tapenade),
Cipollini (onion jam, humboldt fog, and lavender honey),
Fig with granny smith apple, gorgonzola, copa, and aged balsamic glaze.
Here's my crazy crowded plate and wine (and this was just the first thing we ate!).
Then we had a trio of salads. From left to right they were, heirloom beet, spinch & arugula, and zucchini carpaccio.
The zucchini carpaccio was my favorite!
We also had a flight of prosciutto. Check out all that meat!
I'm not a pork person, but I did try this one, a domestic variety.
Then came the mozzarella flight. Holy cow, so much good cheese on one plate. At this point, I was cursing my lack of Lactaid.
If you can believe it, then an endless stream of pizzas came out of the kitchen. I only have a photo of this one, my favorite, which yes, has pork.
It was fun meeting other local foodies and catching up with some folks that I only really know through Twitter.
As we were nearing the end of our dinner Chef John came out of the kitchen to chat with us about the great meal.
Thanks, Chef John and the staff at Sono!
