One night in Vienna, we ate at Walter Bauer, a restaurant pretty old school since Husband had to actually call to make reservations, and they don't have a website. It's hidden on a side street near where we stayed, and as you can see, they don't have a fancy exterior to draw you in.
We decided that this was a great occasion to try the Chef's Menu because to try as much as possible (including wine). The first dish was this sausage and mustard. It was really the only time I was essentially served a hot dog at a fancy restaurant (in sort of presented in a way that you would feed a child) so it made me giggle a little.
Next we had a pate (or liver terrine or something like that) with a piece of brioche and some fruity jelly.
This is... I can't even guess. Maybe a dumpling? I cannot remember what was inside.
Next we had a lovely fish dish. That stick on top of the fish is an asparagus spear wrapped in a phyllo dough and fried. Yum.
Lamb, with mushrooms, and I think those triangles are potatoes.
Dessert was a rich chocolate cake with strawberry ice cream.
The mignardises were little cookies.
Then we stupidly asked for Schnapps, and the server recommended this brand, a small batch manfacturer.
As much as we try, we have trouble getting behind the Schnapps.
The most entertaining part of the night was this wall hanging. As we are not German speakers, it took us about a half hour to realize that it was a clock, a very strange clock. When we figured it out, we were really proud of ourselves.
This restaurant does have one Michelin star, which means I'm not crazy; it was good. Even if you get hot dogs.

It must have been a very wonderful date night for you and your husband. All the dishes look very delicious in the photos! I love the dessert most especially - rich chocolate cake. That's my all-time favorite. =)
