The day after Thanksgiving, we were all still full from the bounty of food prepared the day before so it was clear that we had to fill ourselves up with burgers for lunch. We took my parents on a drive-by of our future home and stopped in to a nearby burger joint/bar, The Bad Apple. If you're a burger fan in Chicago, you simply have to know about this place. We started off with an appetizer, the goat cheese dip. Very goat cheesy.
Husband opted out of his regular fries and upgraded to the Montreal Poutine. Fun fact for those who don't know, Husband is originally from Montreal so he is a good judge of the authenticity of poutine (fries, cheese curds, gravy). These were ok says he. I say gravy on fries is unnatural.
I followed my usual pattern of behavior at burger places and ordered the veggie burger, the Strange Famous (House-made wild mushroom, seitan, chick pea and corn burger, red onion & Sage marmalade, spinach, goat cheese). I will say it was very good, probably my second-favorite veggie burger.
Mom strayed from the burgers and got herself a ham sandwich.
If you like your burgers fancy, hit up The Bad Apple on Wednesdays when they offer the Wagyu Wednesday, a 45-day dry aged prime rib wagyu beef burger. The fixins change weekly so you can go back again and again. Oh, and it costs $26.
