My new New York colleague Natalie was in town this week for training, and we mutually decided (I swear) to have our working/training lunch at Rick Bayless' new street food outpost, Xoco. This, after Chef Bayless tweeted in the morning about a woman IN LABOR stopping by the restaurant for churros and chocolate. Whoa. We had to go there.
I'm not going to lie, we waited in a long line (we got there around 12:45 pm). And when we finally ordered and got a table, we had to sit at a six-seater with women who didn't understand personal space with their bodies.. or giant Louis Vuitton handbags. But all that melted away with one bite of our tortas. I tried the Woodland Mushroom torta with goat cheese, black beans, and arugula. It came with a hot and spicy salsa for dipping.
We also had an order of the Frontera Grill guac. It's so creamy that I never want to know what's in it.
On the way out, we grabbed some churros for back at the office that smelled and tasted every bit as good as they looked. I'm plotting how much I have to run to eat these on a daily basis.
Finally, and what secured this as the best lunch ever, we got a glimpse of the man himself!
Get yourself down to Clark Street now and wear your comfy shoes for the line!
